Avoiding rope catching up between snare and bow If the snare is mounted on the boat and there is a gap that a rope can be caught in occasionally (especially if a thin rope is used) then here is a way to avoid this issue.
This uses a piece of stiff plastic tube - see details here.
Swapping the Winch Post
Consider the Easytow Boat Trailer options...made for Boat Latch.

There are a lot of variations in Winch Posts/Winch Tops out there. Some at odd angles. A lot of the trailer people have other Post variations that you could swap to, or in so many cases another suppliers Post will fit your trailer.
The new version of the Aluminium boat snare is easier to fit, does not need hole drilling, and located with 2 large bolts. It is also stronger. Two sleeves/spacers are provided.

The Right Winch Post & Winch Platform
Our guide to the right parts that cope with a range of boats, that you can take to your trailer supplier for correct selection OR have produced to suit your needs. Click here to open. However it should be noted that the Fibreglass boat copes more easily with a winch post that is more laid back, as opposed to a aluminium boat with a towing eye where a more vertical post gets the roll in the right position.
Roller Extender Option
Used where the roller needs to be able to project out further to the bow. More commonly required on Towing Eye (Aluminium) boats. This is a straight bolt on option avoiding drilling, cutting etc. These are 4 adjustable positions plus tilt. You need to add six M12 galvanised bolts with washers and nylon locking nuts. Tested tensile strength 4 tonnes
Previous version (4 hole)
Use one for the bottom hole and the other where there is room. You do not have to use both. Use washers between the snare sides and the towing eye, so you can tighten against the aluminium surface. The lowest possible position is usually the best option. Note - in North America it is quite common for aluminium boats to have U-bolts, like the fibreglass boats. Where this is the case use a Fibreglass Snare.
Towing eye Snare where roller doesn’t reach out far enough
Example - Here is an example showing an Aluminium boat more commonly used on Towing Eye (Aluminium) boats. In the first case ‘All is well’ ….. In the second the roller does not reach out far enough to stop the boat. Here the more vertical post (with the same winch platform) allows the roller to sit up against the bow with the latch not too far forward. The solution is the Roller Extender allows a ‘quick fix’ without cutting, boring or welding. More detail here.
Adjustment - Horizontal Adjustment 48 mm max. (4 hole positions) Vertical up/down 40 mm roller support arms Rear hole 121 mm (4”) Front hole 24 mm (1”) 50 mm roller support arms Rear Hole 104 mm (4.8”) Front hole 28 mm (1.1)
