Product Strength
A Relative Size Comparison
Note:- The products are for Launching & Retrieving NOT road travel - where winch straps/cables, rear straps, & safety chains must be used.
Heavy Duty Snares For very large boats we have produced a 'Heavy Duty' version. (see note under "Strength Testing"). All made from marine grade stainless steel. This is extremely robust and has the locating bolts at 100mm centres.

Brace
L & R have established a reputation in Australia for an extremely robust product despite the abuse that boaties throw at it. But very occasionally we get some wild man that manages to bend 10 mm stainless steel plate. We have now added a brace that increases strength in the direction (red arrows) shown by 220% (tested by an independent certified testing lab.)
Front bolt must be installed otherwise you will void the warranty.

What Strength do you need for Your Boat ?
There is no exact answer, but we can get close enough for most purposes. We will use the equivalent ‘counterpart’ - namely the L&R Boat Winch - as a means of comparison. The Winch - factors that effect winch strength are :- (1)* Condition of the trailer - rollers or slides (2)* Alignment of the rollers/slides (3) Incline of the boat ramp - drastic effect capacity A common rule of thumb is Winch Capacity = 1/2 boat weight (formula) * This can be stretched to 1/3 boat weight if the trailer is in excellent condition - see (1) & (2) Tested strength (tensile) of New (2021 Towing eye snare = 5.6 Tonnes Towing eye Snare-Heavy Duty = 5 Tonnes Fibreglass Snare ..........…...... = 4.7 Tonnes Fibreglass Snare-Heavy Duty = 7.5 Tonnes Latch .......................…........... = 5.4 Tonnes So in comparison with a winch, a boat weight of double these figures could be viewed as the capacity.
